Hampton University Trumpet Studio


 

The trumpet studio at Hampton University is a musical community at “The Home by the Sea”. Trumpeters from all majors are encouraged to participate in studio activities and school-performance groups. Trumpet study is catered to support each student’s goals and interests.
 

Life in the HU Trumpet Studio

All music majors take weekly private lessons with Dr. Steven Cunningham and participate in various studio and department classes.
 

Performance Opportunities

The Hampton University performing ensembles strive to provide a high level of musical experiences for its members. These organizations provide music for various University functions on and off campus under the umbrella of the Department of Music and Performing Arts. These ensembles include:

Audition Requirements

  • Two selections of contrasting styles (technical and lyrical)
  • Scales: Major scales in all keys (1 Octave Major Scales: Eb, E, F), (2 Octave Major Scales: F#/Gb, G, Ab, A, Bb, B/Cb, C, C#/Db, D
  • Chromatic scale  (low F#-High C above staff)
  • Sight-reading
  • Two selections of contrasting styles (technical and lyrical). Solo repertoire, all district/all state audition materials, and etudes are recommended.
